2nd Annual Retail Sustainability Conference

13 November 2002
Centre Point Conference Centre, 103 New Oxford Street, London WC1

nr tube: Tottenham Court Road

"Getting on top of sustainable development is no longer an option for companies - it's an imperative. Not just to reduce costs, manage risk and stay out of trouble, but to get ahead of the competition"*

In November 2001 the retail industry launched its own innovative sectoral sustainability strategy at the first major conference (hosted by the British Retail Consortium) dedicated solely to a retail environmental agenda.

One year on is this cross-sectoral strategy approach helping to deliver tangible benefits, focus retailers on the priority issues and meet sustainable objectives and targets?

The 2nd Annual Retail Sustainability Conference will answer some of these important questions and look at the key principles of sustainability, it's practical implementation in a retail business, the European agenda, and the importance of retail sustainability to the UK's environmental, social and economic well being.

This one-day event will also provide a platform for retailers to share their experiences, achievements and concerns of sustainable retail innovation including the manufacture of products, energy efficiency and waste management together with new developments in ethical/sustainable supply chains.

Competition has raised expectations of increasingly demanding customers. Consequently, retail companies must strive to exceed their own high standards. KPMG works across the whole retail sector, offering innovative skills and resources, such as helping retailers to maintain control through proactive contingency planning which enables them to remain at the forefront of their market.

KPMG's Sustainability team has a strong retail focus and are committed to help business change, to enable companies to become more responsive to the wider needs of society and so become more successful. Our international network of environmental, social, ethical and economic professionals work within KPMG's global framework of advisory and assurance services.
