BRC BUSINESS INFORMATION SERVICES - SHOP PRICE INDEX

Only subscribers and members of the BRC are entitled to receive the full Shop Price Index (SPI) report every month and all the historical data up to one year.

The SPI is administered by Nielsen and gives the most accurate picture of price inflation/deflation in the UK.

This index is the primary indicator of retail price inflation available. It has become the most authoritative and respected monthly report on price movements within the retail industry. The SPI is now a trusted source of how retail prices affect mainstream inflation.

The SPI is a far better indicator of retail inflation and more focused than the ONS Retail Price Index (RPI), as it tracks price changes of consumer goods purchased only in retail outlets. There are three SPI’s, providing a month-onmonth change and inflation rate for the UK and Scotland.

The UK report is broken down further to provide a month-on-month and inflation rate for each of the following sectors:
  • Food
  • DIY & Hardware
  • Furniture
  • Electrical
  • Clothing
  • Other non-food goods.
