Please find below details of the BRC's Directors. ![]() Director General Stephen's career has spanned 14 years on the boards of major UK retailers building on earlier management roles with Mars Inc, Unilever and Alberto-Culver. Stephen served for seven years as Marketing Director at B&Q plc before leading the acquisition of Screwfix Direct which he then chaired steering it through a period of strong growth. He went on to become Director of Communications at Kingfisher plc and took the helm of the Ellen MacArthur sponsorship. Followed by three years at Woolworth plc. In a non-executive capacity, Stephen serves on the boards of Timpson Group (retailer) and Hargreaves Lansdown (financial services). He has previously served as a non-executive at National Portrait Gallery Company and Fresca Group (fresh produce supplier). He is a former Chairman, and now fellow, of the Marketing Society. ![]() Director of Food & Sustainability Andrew heads up the food and sustainability policy team which covers a wide range of regulatory and policy issues. Key issues are food legislation, food safety, the role of supermarkets, sustainable sourcing and production, climate change, waste, ethical labour and trade issues. He and his team are extremely active in London and Brussels, liaising with key Government departments and agencies, including FSA, Defra, Department of Health and the European Commission. Andrew has been at the BRC since 2005 and previously was Head of Policy Services at the National Farmers' Union. He is also a qualified chartered surveyor. Tel: 020 7854 8930 ![]() Director of Business & Regulation Tom leads the Business & Regulation team which covers a broad range of business cost and reputational issues including property, planning, regeneration, energy, transport, tax, business rates, crime, employment, diversity and risk and safety. The team works with retailers across the whole spectrum of membership to lobby government for improvements in the legislative and regulatory environments and in public service delivery. Tom has been at the BRC since 2008. He has extensive previous experience in a range of different public sector policy roles, including in the postal sector in the years following market liberalisation. Tom began his career at the Local Government Commission leading reviews of local authorities' structure and electoral arrangements. Tel: 020 7854 8955 ![]() Director of Public Affairs Jane leads the Public Affairs team which works with Parliamentarians in Westminster, Cardiff and Brussels. We work alongside public affairs colleagues in member companies to ensure that the key policy issues being pursued by the BRC are understood fully in the parliaments and that those making legislative decisions are briefed on the potential impacts on retailing. The team also delivers the BRC's media relations, ensuring our voice is heard by decision makers, stakeholders and the broader public. Jane has been at the BRC since 2007. She has extensive experience both in government and lobbying on behalf of business during her seven years at the Association of British Insurers. Jane's Civil Service career spanned public finances at HM Treasury and MAFF (now Defra) as well as a range of policy, service delivery and scientific roles. Throughout her career there has been a strong economic content and, over the last ten years, an emphasis on sustainability issues. She has held a range of non-executive directorships and public appointments and her views are sought in peer reviews internationally. Tel: 020 7854 8941 ![]() Director of the Scottish Retail Consortium Fiona's key areas of work include maintaining the political and industry profile of the retail sector in Scotland, through information sharing, research activity and further developing links with key sector partners, including the Scottish Government and Scottish Parliament. This is supported by representation on a wide range of action groups, committees and boards, including the Executive Committee of the SCDI and board of the Scottish Business Crime Centre. Fiona is also a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commence, and a member of the Institute of Directors. Tel: 0870 609 3631 ![]() Director of Corporate Services Fiona Morrison is Director of Corporate Services at the British Retail Consortium, where she is responsible for marketing to members, business information and internal business administration. She has a team of ten staff who provide marketing and business information support to members as well as administrative support to the organisation. In addition to the above, her responsibilities include financial management, human resources and IT. Fiona is also Company Secretary to the British Retail Consortium and its subsidiaries. Fiona has a strong background in retail having worked for the Asprey Group, a leading luxury goods brand, latterly as Group Legal Director and Company Secretary. He works with the BRCT Board colleagues and reports regularly to the Board of Management and Finance & General Purposes Committee on progress of the business.
