UPDATED MEAT TEST RESULTS

| |Having now completed over 90 per cent of their tests on processed minced beef products, retailers are publishing updated results today (Friday).

Total number of DNA tests for horsemeat carried out by BRC members between 20 January and 21 February 2013: 1,508
Proportion of processed minced beef product lines now tested: 92 %
Number of products within these results that have tested positive for horsemeat against the FSA's one per cent threshold: 6
Own brand products that have previously been notified to the FSA and withdrawn as a result of testing positive against the FSA's one per cent threshold for horsemeat.
(additional products have been withdrawn by some retailers as a precautionary measure)

British Retail Consortium Director General Helen Dickinson said: "I'm encouraged by these updated results which confirm how few products have been involved and that any that were have already been removed.
"We continue to take this very seriously. While we may be nearing the end of the FSA testing phase, ever since the incident first occurred, we've gone further by increasing our surveillance and monitoring procedures. This will continue as we look to review current practices. We'll be working closely with Government, the regulator and our suppliers to learn the lessons and implement all and every necessary change required."
