THE EUROPEAN STEERING GROUP

The European Steering Group is an essential element in providing strategic input
into the policy work carried out by the BRC Brussels office, and a useful
mechanism for creating a link between each of the BRC policy advisory groups
when European issues are involved.

To achieve this the ESG carries out the following role:

Keeps under review the BRC's procedure and networks for keeping abreast of developments.
Reviews and advises on the policy and lobbying priorities of the BRC's Brussels office and the allocation and extent of the Brussels office resources.
Ensures that there is effective co-ordination of lobbying effort between the Brussels office and the offices in London and Edinburgh.
Oversees the BRC's relations with EuroCommerce and other Brussels-based trade organisations and policy groups.
Representing the BRC’s position to EU decision-makers at all levels and thereby raising the profile of the UK retail industry and to the outside world through Press Release.
Coordinating and representing the BRC’s views within Eurocommerce, our European Trade voice, and supporting their activity to develop a European umbrella organisation which is well respected by the European institutions
Meets four times a year, with at least two meetings held in Brussels.
Members are encouraged to take an
active role in BRC EU lobbying activities. Membership of the committee includes
representatives from the main BRC Policy Advisory Groups as well as senior
representatives from member companies familiar with EU policy and
decision-making. While policy positions are developed through the London-based
policy advisory groups the ESG can offer its advice.

Below is a list of some of the representatives on the ESG with a link to their websites:
