Leading retailers are for the first time revealing the results of their extensive work in reducing saturated fat in their own products by as much as 70 per cent.
The British Retail Consortium (BRC) members are today (Saturday) publishing a detailed breakdown of individual retailer achievements in reducing saturated fat across a broad range of products – demonstrating the huge progress achieved by the industry to help customers improve their diets.
The achievements table will be updated regularly as part of the retail industry's ongoing commitment to lowering the saturated fat levels in own brand goods.
This drive comes as part of retailers' long standing aim to promote healthy eating by offering customers nutritious food at affordable prices and providing extensive information to help them make healthier choices.
Andrea Martinez-Inchausti, the BRC's Technical Food Director, said: "Retailers have been leading from the front on healthy eating for years. They have long been promoting fresh fruit and vegetables, developing healthier food products, improving nutritional labelling and supporting healthier eating campaigns.
"Retailers have been working to reduce the amount of saturated fat in their own brand goods for some time. They've made good progress so far and want to keep improving. By publishing the results achieved so far, and providing regular updates, our members are making a very public commitment to lower the saturated fat levels in their customers' diets."
Notes to Editors: The full results of the saturated fat achievements table are available from the BRC press office.
